Sister Mary Dominic Rechtorick

Sister Mary Dominic Rechtorick, a Sister of Charity of Nazareth, died on Monday, August 8, 2011 at the age of 84 after serving God for 66 years.

She was born in New Salem, Pennsylvania and entered the community of the Vincentian Sisters of Charity in 1945 from Saint Procopius Parish, New Salem.

Sister Dominic earned a Bachelor of Education Degree from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and a Masters Degree in Reading from the Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

For 36 years, she taught in the dioceses of Pittsburgh and Greensburg.

Sister Dominic then served as principal for 19 years at Saint Lawrence School in Monett, Missouri (Diocese of Springfield-Cape Giradeau).

Sister spent part of each summer for 16 years going to Philippi, West Virginia to assist those in need. She had a special love for the poor and under-served.

In her teaching ministry, Sister also had a special love for students who presented any type of challenge, always trying to give them every opportunity to change and grow.

Following retirement from teaching, Sister Dominic was the receptionist at the Vincentian Child Care Center for six years, after which she became part of the Prayer Ministry.

She was a resident of the Vincentian Home for the past five years.

She was predeceased by her parents, John Rechtorick and Eva (Glogosky) Rechtorick; by sisters, Anna, Louise, Helen, Mildred, Sister Pelagia (Mary) and Sister M. Bernice (Agnes); brothers, Frank and Anthony.

She is survived by her brother, Stephen; sister-in-law, Irene; nieces, nephews; her Sisters in the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Global Community and by her dear friend, Janet Kurek and family.

Friends were received on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at SAINT LOUISE CONVENT, 8200 McKnight R o a d, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at the Saint Louise Convent Chapel.

B u r i a l f o l l o w e d i n the Sisters’ Cemetery.
