Gertrude M. Camlin Garlick

3 min read

On Sunday, August 14, 2011, Gertrude M. Camlin Garlick, f o r m e r l y o f S o u t h Connellsville, Pennsylvania left this world for her final rest and to join her husband of 55 years, Harold R. Garlick Sr., and her parents, Wilbur J. and Olive I. (Black) Camlin, her sister, Donna, and her brother, Wilbur Jr. ‘Bud’,

Gertrude started the early years of her marriage working as a Bell Telephone operator and eventually took over handling the bookkeeping for her husband’s businesses while raising her family.

She leaves behind those who loved her and fondly remember the hearty meals, magnificent pies, and the beautifully tailored clothes that she lovingly made.

Even in her later years, her energy barely waned as she insisted on taking care of her self and her home as long as humanly possible, despite near total blindness.

Her determination and self-reliance were an inspiration worthy of her Scot-Irish roots.

She led her life as a quiet witness to grace and beauty.

Surviving family includes her daughter Irene J. ‘Renie’ Pollock and husband Donald C. P o l l o c k of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, grandson Curtis L. Pollock and his wife Aja of Austin, Texas, grandson Ross Justin Pollock of Jeannette, Pennsylvania; d a u g h t e r Cynthia G. Bentz (widowed) of Hilton Head, South Carolina, granddaughter A r y n J. Nussbaumer and her husband James of Taylorsville, North Carolina and their children: great-granddaughter Hunter R. Nussbaumer and great g r a n d s o n s C o d y C. Nussbaumer and Jesse G. M. Nussbaumer; Gertrude’s son, the Rev. Harold R. Garlick Jr. and his wife the Rev. Connie Garlick of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania; her grandson, Staff Sergeant Joshua J. Garlick, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and his wife Christy, great-granddaughter Camden J. and great-grandson Keegan R., all of Fort Drum, New York; her granddaughter Katherine Nicole Garlick of Indiana, Pennsylvania; and Gertrude’s youngest daughter Penny L. Chess and husband Dale Chess, granddaughters Elizabeth L. Chess and Sarah L. Chess and grandson Blake A. Chess all of Hilton Head, South Carolina; a n d Mrs. Garlick’s two sisters, Alberta Cossell and Shirley Vinoski, both of C o n n e l l s v i l l e, Pennsylvania.

Friends will be received only on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 South First Street, W e s t S i d e, Connellsville, PA 15425 (724.628.9033).

A Private Graveside Service officiated by her son, the Rev. Harold R. Garlick Jr., will take the next morning at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pennsylvania.
