Robert D. Hughes
Robert D. Hughes, age 83, of Connellsville, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2011 in Sunshine Estates Personal Car Home.
He was born on Thursday, February 2, 1928 in N o r t h Union Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania the son of Owen C. Hughes and Iva Clark Hughes.
Robert was a member of the Connellsville Church of God and its Adult Sunday School Class.
He was an Electrician and a member of the Electrical Workers Local No. 5.
He was owner of the former Hughes Trucking Company.
He graduated from the now former North Union High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy who serving during World War II.
Robert was a 50 year member of the Laurel Lodge 651 F. & A.M. in Uniontown, the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh and the Scottish Rite Valley of Uniontown.
He was also a member of the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood and the North Union Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Daniel C. Hughes in 1983; two brothers, Curtis Hughes who was killed while serving during World War II and Owen Hughes; and sisters, June Smitley, Stella Yauger, Elma (Ann) Kinsell, Marilyn Matthews and Carolyn Hughes
He is survived by his wife, Jaynie Hann Hughes; and one sister, Garnet Phelan, Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, PA 15425 where Services will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Nelson Confer officiating.
Interment, with M i l i t a r y H o n o r s, will f o l l o w i n Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pennsylvania.
Laurel Lodge No. 651 will conduct a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home today at 7.
