Connellsville PD association to hold poker run
CONNELLSVILLE — The Connellsville Police Officers’ Association will hold a 10-mile Bicycle Poker Ride fundraising event Sunday to aid in its ongoing community projects.
According to the association, participants will have a choice of bike routes, depending upon their experience. The routes include a challenging course through the city and a second, less strenuous course along the Great Allegheny Passage.
Riders will receive a playing card at various checkpoints along the two routes. Trophies will be awarded to the best poker hand in four classes and riders will be eligible for a variety of other prizes.
Grand prizes include a 20-inch BMX Haro bicycle donated by Bikes Unlimited of Connellsville and a Trek Mountain Bike, courtesy of the officers’ association.
Refreshments will be available for riders and all participants are encouraged to wear helmets during the ride. Those age 12 and under are required to have a helmet to participate.
Proceeds from the event will support the association’s scholarship program for Connellsville Area Senior High School graduates pursuing a post secondary education in the field of criminal justice along with its School Safety Patrol, child fingerprinting, safety presentations, drug awareness and bicycle safety programs.
Registration begins at noon at Yough River Park with the ride set for 1 p.m. The entrance fee is $15 for early registration and $20 the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt.
Applications are available at the Connellsville Police Department, located a 110 N. Arch St. and Bikes Unlimited, located at 503 W. Crawford Ave.
