Homestead man waives gun charges to court
A Homestead man accused of firing several shots into an occupied home in Uniontown earlier this summer waived all charges against him to court Tuesday.
Uniontown police said they took Amir D. Purifoy-Bey, 31, of 1405 Sylvan St. into custody immediately following the shooting, which occurred at 7:07 p.m. June 11 at the intersection of North Gallatin Avenue and West Askren Street.
Officer Jason Fidazzo said Purifoy-Bey was subsequently charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, carrying a firearm without a license, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Purifoy-Bey waived all charges against him to Fayette County Court during a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
Fidazzo said the incident occurred when police were dispatched to a report of multiple shots fired in the area.
Fidazzo said a witness told police that he heard four to five shots and looked out of a window to see a man running down Gallatin Avenue pointing a gun at 271 N. Gallatin Ave.
The man then attempted to place the gun into the waistband of his pants while running up the alley between Askren and Coffey streets, the witness reported.
Fidazzo said the witness was able to provide police with an exact description of the shooter and that officers were able to snag Purifoy-Bey almost immediately.
Fidazzo said a woman had been inside 271 N. Gallatin Ave when Purifoy-Bey allegedly fired the shots and fled the home because she was fearful.
No one was injured as a result of the shooting.
