Joseph Kopnisky, 84 of Uniontown, Pa. died on August 16, 2011.

He was born November 15, 1926 in LaBelle, Pa., the son of Joseph and Sophia (Bogna) Kopnisky.

Joe was a graduate of Georges Township High School Class of 1945. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1945 and received basic training in Camp Blinding, Florida, serving in the Phillipines until he was discharged in 1947.

He was a longtime faithful member of the Saint Joseph R.C. Church at Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, Pa., a Home Mininster and Adult Server and secretary and treasurer of the Saint Joseph Ushers’ Club. Also a member of Polish Club, Retired Club Quarter Century Club, Amvets Post 103, Hutchinson Sportsmens’ Club, South Union Volunteer Fire Com-pany and the First Catholic Slovak Union and was a Machine Inspector at voting polls in South Union Township

Joe was employed as a meter serviceman for Columbia Gas for 36 years until his retirement.

His parents, Joe and Sophia, brothers, Albert Kopnisky and Francis Kopnisky are deceased.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Shamrock) Kopnisky; two sons, Mark Anthony Kopnisky, Uniontown, Pa. and Thomas Edward Kopnisky and wife Lynn Kopnisky, Harrisburg, Pa.; two grandchildren, Bruce Joseph Kopnisky and Amelia Kopnisky; brother, Richard Kopnisky and wife Jane, Uniontown, Pa.; sisters, Elaine Gamon, Cleveland, Ohio, Agnes Unetich, Uniontown, Pa. and Dolores Martin, Medina, Ohio, sister-in-law, Anne Kopnisky and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, August 20, 2011 until 9:15 a.m. when a Prayer Service will be held. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph R.C. Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road , Uniontown, Pa. with Rev. Fr. James Clark as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa. with Military Rites being accorded by Amvets Post 103.

South Union Volunteer Fire Company will hold Memorial Service Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
