Connellsville fire ruled arson

CONNELLSVILLE — The state police fire marshal has ruled the cause of a vacant house fire Sunday afternoon at 255 East Fairview Avenue as arson.
Firefighters from New Haven Hose Company along with Connellsville Township and Morrell volunteer fire companies were dispatched to the scene at 1:15 p.m. where they battled flames for several hours.
Bob Topper, New Haven Hose fire chief, said the house sustained heavy water and smoke damage while the second floor was completely gutted by the fire.
Topper added a neighbor’s house received minor smoke damage from the flames.
