An Alverton man is behind bars after police allege he raped a 10-year-old girl on multiple occasions over a five-year period beginning in 2004 at a location in Everson.

State police Trooper Matthew Gavrish said John A. Thomas Jr., 34, was charged Monday night before Magisterial District Judge Jesse Cramer with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.

Gavrish said the charges were filed after the alleged victim, now a teenager, told police that Thomas forced her to perform various sexual acts with him beginning when she was 10-years-old at a residence in Everson.
