John Francis Galatic, 97, of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania passed away in his home on Monday, August 22, 2011 with his family at his side.

He was born on August 21, 1914 in ‘another country’, Farmington, West Virginia, a son of the late Florian and Tressa Brkovich Galatic.

The family moved to Carmichaels around 1920.

He was a 1934 graduate of Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels.

Mr. Galatic obtained his barber’s license in 1936 in Pittsburgh and worked there until he moved back to Carmichaels in 1940, where he barbered until he retired in 1998. He operated his own business ‘Johnny’s Barber Shop’ from his home with a store front on South Market Street.

He was a member of the Carmichaels Senior Citizen’s and enjoyed playing Dartball with them. He was a member of the Issac Walton League and the Carmichaels Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Galatic enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was one of the original members that helped build the Carmichaels Gun Club. From 1995 through 2010, he fished every winter in Louisiana. He always made time to take his family fishing.

He was a lifetime avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also a fan of Carmichaels High School and any other school that his children and his grandchildren attended.

On October 9, 1940 he married Edna Murphy, who preceded him in death on November 29, 1994.

Surviving are three children: Ronald Steven (Joyce) Galatic of Fredricktown, Pa., George D. (Jeanne) Galatic of Leesburg, FL. and William M. Galatic of York, Pa.; eight grandchildren: Lue Ann, John, Alex, Valerie, Julie, Madeline, Heather and Pamela; fourteen great-grandchildren: Peter, Kayla, John, Paul, Vanessa, Steven, Anthony, Vincent, Louis, Marissa, Michael, Stephanie, Ethan and Ayden; and one great-great-grandchild: Carl Vincent Dearth; two sisters: Helen (Mike) Zentichko of Newport, Pa. and Kathryn (Andy) Sijakovich of Encino, Ca. and one brother: Stephen (Liz) Sibenick of Encino, Ca.; daughter-in-law: Luella Ann Galatic, Carmichaels and many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Gwen Skiles.

Deceased are one son: John D. Galatic; four sisters: Katy (John) Obrovic, Katy Galatic, Mary (Chet) Sawacki and Tressa (Bob) Sloneker; two daughters-in-law: Jacqueline Gywnn Galatic, and Marilyn Sell Galatic and three grandchildren: Steven, George and Laura Galatic.

Friends will be received in the LESAKO FUNERAL HOME INC., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa. 15320 (724-966-5100), Paul M. Lesako Funeral Director/Supervisor on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. The Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lillian Sparks officiating.

Burial will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery in Carmichaels, Pa.
