Veterans Commission to remember POWs and MIAs

CONNELLSVILLE TWP. — The public is encouraged to join with the Connellsville Veterans Commission Saturday to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and the veterans that have yet to return home.

The Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) service will be conducted at noon at the Connellsville Readiness Center located at 701 Petersburg Road.

During the ceremony, the American Legion Riders and Jim Smith, U.S. Navy veteran and commission member, will conduct the Table Ceremony in honor of those that remain missing or a prisoner of war.

The service will additionally honor the Fayette County soldiers that lost their lives while serving in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gerald Browell, a Vietnam veteran and former superintendent of the Connellsville Area School district will serve as master of ceremonies and offer remarks.

Others taking part will be the Molinaro Band under the direction of Henry Molinaro and the Rev. Shawn Goodwin, executive director of Connellsville Community Ministries.
