Couple sentenced to probation for letting children live in poor conditions

1 min read

A couple who allowed their six children to live in squalor were each sentenced to terms of probation on Thursday in Fayette County Court.

Elizabeth Ruffner, 36, of Carmichaels and James Boord, 49, of Uniontown were charged in January with endangering the welfare of children after police found the home they were living in on Mifflin Avenue in Uniontown littered with feces and rubbish. Their children, ages 3 to 11, were filthy and police at the time described the home as “beyond deplorable.”

Judge Steve P. Leskinen sentenced Ruffner to one year of probation and Boord to two years of probation. He ordered both to take parenting classes, and comply with any recommendations made by the county’s Children and Youth Services.
