Helen Marie Kiger

Helen Kiger, 65, of St. Albans, WV, passed away on August 24, 2011, at Hubbard Hospice House, after a short illness.

She was a sweet and gentle mother, wife, sister, friend, grandmother and aunt.

She died surrounded in the peace and love of her family.

Helen was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Helen Funtal.

She was the beloved sister of Barb and Steve.

She attended Uniontown High School and graduated in 1964. She began her career in Washington, D.C. working for the Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon. She held various administrative and accounting positions throughout her career. Most recently, for the past 12 years, she was the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Planning and Advancement at West Virginia State University, from where she retired in 2010.

Her greatest love was spending time with her family, her faith and her special furry friends, “Duncan” and “Mason”. She created a loving home, where all felt welcome and loved and enjoyed her hospitality and home cooking.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; Edward and Helen Ann Funtal; brother, Steve Funtal and her father-in-law and mother-in-law; Oman and Frances Kiger.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Kiger; daughter, Rachel Kiger of Charleston; son and daughter-in-law, James “Aaron” and Jillian Kiger of Louisville, KY and son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Arika Kiger of Las Cruses, New Mexico; her beloved grandsons; Samuel Kiger and Landen Kiger; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Fleming of Merrill, Mich.; special nephew, Sean Fleming and wife Carmen and their daughter, Logan of Buchannon, Va. and special niece, Michele and husband Brian Tessin and their children, Madeline, William and Maria of Midland, Mich.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, St. Albans with Father Patrick M. McDonough as celebrant.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. today in the BARTLETT-CHAPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 409 Sixth Avenue, St. Albans, where at prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church.

Helen’s family would like to express their special appreciation to the Hubbard House staff and nurses for the warmth, love and care given to her and her family during her short stay at Hubbard House.
