Commissioners approve lease for natural gas compressor station, gas lines

The Fayette County commissioners have approved a lease of county property with a Texas-based company planning to construct a natural gas compressor station and install gas lines.

The commissioners unanimously approved a contract with Burnette Oil Co. Inc. of Fort Worth at their monthly meeting to lease the county property known as the Old Dunlap Dam property.

The property is located on the opposite side of New Salem Road from Dunlap Creek Park and is in German and Menallen townships.

Commission Chairman Vincent Zapotosky thanked Burnette for working with the county.

Months ago, the commissioners were presented a lease proposal, and since that time Commissioner Angela M. Zimmerlink had voiced concerns about some of the provisions in it. Zimmerlink had inquired about the laying of additional pipelines without payment and no definition of what “reclamation of the land” would encompass.

Last month, the county zoning hearing board granted a special exception for Burnette to construct a natural gas compressor station on county-owned land in German Township.

Burnette, which has an office in Washington County, received a special exception for a private/public works facility in German Township on property zoned A-1, agricultural rural. The property is located near Jeffries Crossing and Carr Lane.

The company must comply with all state and federal regulations and must secure various permits to construct the compressor station.

The agreement is a 20-year lease.

In other business at Thursday’s meeting, the commissioners awarded a contract for chaplain services at the Fayette County Prison with Terry A. Sanders for $375 a month. Sanders, who has worked as the chaplain, hasn’t been paid since January because he didn’t have the required documentation.

The commissioners announced that the second annual Fayette County Veterans Appreciation Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Storey Square in downtown Uniontown. The event, coordinated by Fayette County veterans affairs director Tod Conner, will include free food, entertainment and a veterans information booth.
