Fayette County woman wins Young Republicans award
A Fayette County woman has been named the Young Republicans of Pennsylvania’s 2011 Woman of the Year.
Rebecca Harmon-Dowling was named Woman of the Year at the organization’s annual leadership conference this week. She will be honored at an upcoming Young Republican’s board meeting in Harrisburg.
“It is a great honor to even be considered for this award. I was surprised when I found out I was nominated and am truly humbled to have been selected, Harmon-Dowling said. “I was told once that you have three options: You can be a doer, watcher or wonder. You can do something, watch something be done or see that something has been done and wonder how it got to be that way. I try to be a doer.”
Harmon-Dowling is an elected Republican state committeewoman and serves on the boards of the Fayette County Chapter of the Young Republicans and the Young Republicans of Pennsylvania.
She is active with the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, where she serves as host of its monthly news magazine “Chamber Chatter.”
“The honor of the title Women of the Year is given to one female in the commonwealth who exemplifies service, not only to her political party but also to her community,” said Young Republicans of Pennsylvania Chairwoman Brittany Tressler of Montgomery County.
