Lopes completes training

Daniel Lopes, a massage therapist who practices in Fayette City, has completed 40 hours of post-graduate studies in Active Myofascial Therapy (AMT).

Lopes will incorporate AMT into his therapy practice. The procedure greatly reduces pain and aids the therapist in the prevention of myofascial dysfunctions by enhancing skills in assessing and incorporating AMT into practice.

Lopes studies the Diamond method of AMT, which was developed by Irene Diamond, a Hawaiian rehabilitation therapist more than 25 years ago. Diamond developed the system as a way to recover from a spinal cord injury she sustained at age 15.

“The Diamond method makes it super easy for me to get great results with my clients who have pain or limitations in the movement of their arm, leg, neck or back. I have already found that AMT shortens their healing time, and reduces their pain, and is fantastic at getting desk-athletes and weekend warriors back to the activity they love without strain and restriction,” Lopes said. He added the Diamond method is also used for preventative, maintenance and pain management. He will use the method in conjunction with other therapies, such as massage, chiropractic and physical therapy.

Business center offers programs

St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host Six Steps to a Better Business Oct. 11. The seminar will be held at the college from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Six Steps to a Better Business will provide participants with systems and strategies that will help their businesses gain efficiency and grow. Participants will learn how to move their businesses to the top; to gain control of time, team and money; take control of cash flow and profits; multiply and retain customers; increase revenue and profits; and leverage team, systems, technology and marketing. Participants will also learn to work on their business, not in it; to recruit, motivate and retain a winning team of employees; and to avoid the top four common mistakes in advertising and turn their marketing into an investment, not an expense.

Presenter Ken Sevick has been successfully coaching and getting results for businesses since 2004 when he joined ActionCoach as a certified business coach. ActionCoach coaches thousands of business owners and executives every year. Prior to becoming an Action Coach, Sevick spent 17 years as a buyer, manager, operations executive and human resources executive for Federated Department Stores.

There is a fee to attend this seminar.

To register or to obtain additional information, call the SBDC at 724-537-4572.

Meanwhile, the college will offer a workshop on the accounting software package, QuickBooks, Oct. 18.

This program is designed for people and businesses that have recently purchased the accounting system, QuickBooks, or for those who currently use QuickBooks but would like to become more efficient in processing their day-to-day work.

The seminar will also provide resource material and information that will broaden QuickBooks skills and answer common questions. Topics include setting up a company file, defining and modifying the chart of accounts, setting up and editing new vendors and customers, processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, entering manual checks, applying cash receipts and deposits, and preparing bank reconciliations and financial reports. The presenter will also answer specific questions concerning a business or situation.

The program will be held at the college from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. There is a fee for each program. To register or to obtain additional information, call the SBDC at 724-537-4572 or go online to stvincent.edu/sbdc.
