Walter H. ‘Sonny’ Wilson Jr.
‘Sonny’ Wilson departed this life on Friday, August 26th, 2011 to a joyous homecoming to his Lord. Those whom loved him and knew of his wonder as a man committed to his family and friends surrounded him in his passing.
Sonny’s life was a celebration of love, humor, honesty, sorrow, electricity, trucks, and the Steelers!
Sonny started his earthly journey on Sunday, April 6th, 1941, in Sleepy Hollow, Pennsylvania being the first boy in 11 children.
He married the love of his life on Saturday, March 18th, 1961 in Uniontown.
He was a Professional Truck Driver as a trade and shared a love of cooking, football, basketball, fishing, and a lot more laughing than crying with his family.
Sonny’s goal in life was to make sure that his children had more than he had in childhood and he achieved this beyond his wildest expectations.
He became ‘Pap’ later in his life and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He died a wealthy man surrounded by treasures that money cannot buy.
Sonny is survived by his best friend and wife, Darlene (Yauger) Wilson of Uniontown. His survivors include children Walter H. ‘Sonny’ Wilson III and wife Sher of Ligonier, Pennsylvania; David E. Wilson Sr. of Uniontown; and Wendy Sue Morris and husband John of Uniontown. A special nephew, Doug Yauger, and his wife Barb of Pottstown, Pennsylvania also survives. He leaves grandchildren Amy B. Vinoverski and husband Andy West Leisenring, Pennsylvania David E. Wilson Jr. and wife Kim of Uniontown; and Bethany L. Wilson, Uniontown. Two very special great grandchildren survive him and will miss their ‘Pap’, Faith Elizabeth Vinoverski a n d David Earl Wilson III. He is also survived by brothers-in-law David Yauger and wife Ruth of Uniontown; and Ed Yauger and wife Jody of Uniontown.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. Wilson Sr. and wife Delores (Baker). Sonny was also the last surviving member of his family as being preceded in death by seven sisters and t h r e e b r o t h e r s. Two grandchildren, Erin and Carli, also preceded him in passing. Father-in-law Clarence E., and a lady whom he loved as mom, Ruth C. Yauger, also preceded him.
Friends will received in the JEROME W. SHELL F U N E R A L H O M E, 164 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pennsylvania from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday with Funeral Services at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 30, at 11 a.m.
