Uniontown woman to stand trial for burglaries
Uniontown police Officer Frederick Kampert said Dell Marie Hunter, 37, of 102 Liberty St. was charged before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros with two counts of burglary for breaking into the home of Michelle Deshields on July 25 and 26.
Metros held all charges against Hunter to Fayette County Court after hearing testimony Tuesday afternoon from Deshields and Kampert.
Kampert said the first burglary occurred when Hunter broke into the housing unit at 57 Pershing Court and stole $320 on July 25.
Following her capture by police after the second burglary, she admitted to breaking into the unit July 25 to steal cash to get her car fixed.
Kampert said in the second burglary, Hunter tried to break into the apartment shortly after 5 a.m. July 26, but was met by Deshields, who held her at gunpoint until police arrived, Kampert said.
Kampert said when he asked Hunter why she attempted to break into the home on consecutive days, she told police that she was trying to steal an additional $20 in the second burglary for gas money.
This isn’t Hunter’s first encounter with the law.
Earlier this year, Hunter waived a single theft charge to court after police allege she stole more than $1,000 from the Uniontown Lady Red Raiders Booster fund.
Uniontown police Officer Thomas Kolencik said he filed the charge against Hunter after she admitted to taking $1,104 from the fund.
Kolencik said Hunter first admitted to making the withdrawals but told police the money had been spent on booster club members at different outings, and that she had receipts to substantiate the purchases.
Hunter provided police with receipts totaling $101.
Kolencik said she was unable to prove what the remaining $1,104 had been spent on, resulting in charges being filed.
