Blood drive planned in honor of Fredericktown man

1 min read

A Red Cross blood drive will be held Saturday at the Richeyville Volunteer Fire Department in honor of Fredericktown resident Tyler Miller.

Miller is a 2010 graduate of the Bethlehem-Center High School, where he played three sports. Miller was most recently a student and basketball player at Westmoreland County Community College, majoring in criminal justice, when he was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MD). He is on temporary hiatus because of his medical condition. He is a son of Dan and Natalie Miller and older brother of Zachary Miller of Fredericktown.

Miller’s condition will ultimately require a bone marrow transplant. He has received weekly blood and platelet transfusions since Sept. 21.

The blood drive Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. is being held in his honor, showing community support. The blood collected by the Red Cross at the event will be used to help patients throughout the region. For more information, call 1-800-REDCROSS, 1-800-733-2767.
