HeraldStandard.com readers contributed another $5,000 to the Give-A-Christmas campaign, raising the total to $6,475.

The latest donations included contributions from Abundant Life Church in Uniontown. Other groups participating included Juniata United Methodist Church in Dunbar, Linda Evon with Creative Designs and Expressions in Elco and the Birthday Girls of Perryopolis — Tillie, Kay, Joanie, Yolanda and Susanne.

“Thank you so much,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is mascot for the campaign that benefits the Salvation Army. “We were very touched by their generosity and the kindness shown by all our readers. Remember that we want to raise $40,000 this holiday season to help the Salvation Army. The money goes to local units so that when readers gives money, it will go to the Salvation Army branches that serve their communities.”

Sparkle received some nice notes:

“Dear friends, We extend our thanks to the Herald-Standard for once again partnering with the Salvation Army to help meet the needs of many people of our community. We also extend our thanks to the Salvation Army for all that they do to allow people to experience the hands and the heart of Jesus at this time of the year when we celebrate Jesus’ birth,” wrote Nicholas J. Cook, pastor of Abundant Life Church.

“Wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous new year,” wrote Linda Evon of Creative Designs and Expressions.

“Dear Sparkle, The Birthday Girls of Perryopolis know of your wonderful works in our area. Please accept our donation to carry on these good deeds, Merry Christmas!,” wrote Susanne Kohler.

“The Gabeletto family has an extra reason to celebrate this Christmas season. We welcomed a new daughter-in-law at our son’s spring wedding. Our donation this year is in honor of the happy couple, Michael and Toyia Gabeletto. Merry Christmas, Sparkle, and may your annual campaign be successful,” wrote Michael and Rose Gabeletto of Nemacolin.

The donors also included James R. Newman, in memory of parents William and Inez Newman, best friend C. Gerald DeBolt, little buddy Bandit and in honor of his three sisters Barbara Digiovini, Gail Mack, Cheryl Dietz and special friends Robert and Cindy Harper and family, Uniontown; Shirley Ellis, in honor of HeraldStandard.com employees, Uniontown; Nora M.
