Gerri Krishan, committee member of the Hopwood Villagers, places an ornamental bell onto the Christmas tree on Saturday in preparation for the first annual Winter Fest. Sponsored by the Hopwood Villagers, the event will take place on Saturday and will feature a variety of family-oriented activities including horse drawn buggy rides, visits with Santa, and holiday music by several local choirs.

Hopwood will celebrate the holidays in a big way by holding the village’s first “Winter Fest” celebration Saturday, Dec. 10.

Sponsored by the Hopwood Villagers, a volunteer group created to organize events and other activities in Hopwood, the celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m. across from the PNC Bank on Route 40.

“We’re expecting to have a great time and hoping for a good turnout,” said Rick Rohm, chairman of the Hopwood Villagers.

Rohm said a variety of family friendly activities are scheduled, including free horse-drawn buggy rides.

In addition, Rohm said children will have the opportunity to make bird feeders from pine cones and visit with Santa Claus, Rudolph and Frosty, the Snowman.

Rohm said Christmas music will be performed by several local choirs and that WMBS will broadcast live from the site.

Refreshments will be available, and vendors also will be on site.

The community Christmas tree will be lit and a check will be presented to the Give-A-Christmas campaign. Proceeds from the HeraldStandard.com fundraiser are given to the Salvation Army and stays local, helping those in need.

Rohm said the Hopwood Villagers are happy to be able to donate and give something back to the community while celebrating the holidays.

The Hopwood Villagers meet at 6:30 p.m. the last Thursday of every month at Rick’s 50’s Cafe, located at 1190 E. National Pike in Hopwood. New members are welcome.
