Auditor’s findings show vo-tech in compliance
GEORGES TWP. — An audit performed for the vo-tech school for the years ending June 30, 2009, and 2010 revealed no findings of deficiencies.
On Tuesday, members of the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute’s joint operating committee approved the state Department of Auditor General’s report, which showed the school is in compliance.
“They had all positive comments, nothing negative,” said Dr. Edward Jeffreys, executive director at the vo-tech.
In other business, committee members approved a motion authorizing the administration to advertise for sealed bids for the purpose of rebidding tools and equipment for the diesel mechanics program.
Bids previously had been received for the tools and equipment, which is required for National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation certification, but the committee did not accept any bids in time after tabling the motion, thus requiring officials to re-advertise for the items.
In personnel moves, members voted to add Robin Renox as a long-term custodian to the nonprofessional substitute list for the 2011-12 school year. Also approved to that list Tuesday were Joseph Koast, Jr. in a custodial/maintenance position and Lauren Smith, secretarial, both pending receipt of clearances.
At the meeting, the committee bid farewell to several members who will not keep their seats next year on their respective school boards thus no longer able to serve on the vo-tech committee. Outgoing members are Philip Holt and Paul Bortz, both of Uniontown Area School Board; Michael Dunham of Albert Gallatin School Board; and Angelo Giachetti and Curtis Jacobs, who both serve of the Laurel Highlands School Board. Francine Pavone, who was absent from Tuesday’s meeting, also will vacate her seat on both the Brownsville Area School Board and the vo-tech committee.
Vo-tech officials said after the four school districts that send students to the vo-tech reorganize next week, new committee members for the vo-tech will be selected. The committee will hold its reorganization and regular meetings beginning with a work session at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at the vo-tech school.
