Election challenge delays school board meetings
A challenge in the Fayette County election has caused a delay for some school districts to hold reorganization meetings this week.
According to the Pennsylvania School Code, school boards must reorganize by the end of the first full week of December, but the challenge led to a delay in certifying the county election, causing the cancellation of Monday meetings for Uniontown Area and Brownsville Area school boards.
Republican candidate for county commissioner, David Lohr, had challenged the election board’s rejection of 18 absentee ballots in the November election. Late Monday, Fayette County Judge Ralph C. Warman ruled to uphold the election board’s decision.
Jim Davis of Davis and Davis Attorneys at Law, the legal counsel for both the Uniontown Area and Brownsville Area districts, said the school board meetings had to be postponed because the boards could not reorganize until the new candidates have been certified as official school board members.
