Man sentenced in crash death

1 min read

A former Uniontown man was sentenced to three to 23 months in prison for an accident that killed a Tennessee woman earlier this year.

Dennis Brangard, 21, now of Killen, Ala., was sentenced for a count of accidents involving death or personal injury in the April 12 death of Brenda Carroll, 24. Carroll was a passenger in his car when he crashed on Route 40 in Brier Hill in Redstone Township. He had faced a charge of homicide by vehicle, but that charge was dismissed when police determined he wasn’t speeding at the time of the crash.

Brangard’s car hit a steep post and flipped over. Carroll was pronounced dead at the scene, and two other passengers in the vehicle survived the crash.

Brangard also pleaded guilty to driving without a license.

He still faces charges that he tried to escape from police custody when he was being arraigned in Carroll’s death. Police alleged he tried to pry off leg irons that had him shackled to a bench at the Fayette County Booking Center, and damaged another set of leg irons in the process.

In that case, he faces charges of attempted escape and criminal mischief.
