Frank C. Bonvenuto
Frank C. Bonvenuto, 87, a lifelong resident of Point Marion, Pa., passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born April 9, 1924 in Point Marion, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Maria Ronco Bonvenuto.
Following graduation in 1943 from the Point Marion High School, he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was among the troops that landed i n t h e b a t t l e f o r Iwo Jima.
A skilled Glassblower by trade, Frank worked for Houze Glass in Point Marion and retired after 28 years at Beaumont Glass in Morgantown, where he was Superintendent of the Glass Blowing Division.
He owned and operated the former Colonial Hotel in Point Marion in the 1960’s, and was a member of St. Hubert’s R.C. Church.
Frank was proud of his roots in Point Marion, and fondly reminisced how wonderful Point Marion was as a place to grow up, and raise his own family.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Florence Fuss Bonvenuto, to whom he was married on May 31, 1947; three children, Donna of Point Marion, Mark and wife Teri, and Frank Jr. all of Ohio; grandchildren: A d a m and wife S t e f a n i e, Ashley, M a c k e n z i e and Zachary; two great-grandchildren: Alexis and Drew; and the three Champlin children whom he loved as his own: Megan, Stephen and Elizabeth.
He was predeceased by brothers, Fred, Angelo and Pat; sisters, Rose Cappellano and Delina Diakunik.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, P o i n t Marion, Pa., on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday until 9:30 a.m., when a Prayer Service will be held, followed by Funeral Mass in St. Hubert R.C. Church, Point Marion, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Fr. Andrew Kawecki as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, with military rites accorded at the graveside by the Point Marion Veterans Posts.
