A North Union Township woman told state police that she was trying to fend off an attack from a pitbull when her boyfriend stepped in to protect the animal and she stabbed and killed him.

Debra Ann Becker, 41, of 237 Turkeyfoot Road is charged with a single count of criminal homicide in the Saturday death of Ronald Alois Mudrey Jr., 47, of the same address.

In an affidavit of probable cause, Trooper Scott A. Krofcheck indicated that Baker told a neighbor that Mudrey had “sicked” the dog on her during a fight. Police said Becker told them that the two were fighting, and she wanted Mudrey to leave, but he refused.

“Defendant stated that victim commanded their dog, a pitbull, to become aggressive with her and the dog bit her arm and ripped her shirt. Defendant stated that in an attempt to free herself from the canine, she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed at the canine and in the process, victim attempted to protect the animal and she stabbed victim,” wrote Krofcheck in an affidavit of probable cause.
