Holiday fund jumps to $16,305
HeraldStandard.com readers sent $1,645 to the Give-A-Christmas campaign, causing the fund that benefits the Salvation Army to jump to $16,305.
Contributors included High House Hedgehogs and friends from Brnich’s Bar in Smithfield, Ohiopyle-Stewart Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Mount Ararat Baptist Church Missionary in Cardale as well as others throughout the district.
“Thank you so much,” said Sparkle, campaign mascot. “We appreciate every donation in our effort to raise $40,000 for the Salvation Army.”
The Christmas star received some nice notes.
“Good wishes to you and also the Salvation Army as they continue to help those in need from our community. Peace to all during this Christmas season and throughout the coming year,” wrote High House Hedgehogs and friends.
“Dear Sparkle, It is a tough Christmas this year. A lot of people are out of work and have no money. I hope this little bit will help someone,” wrote Sandy and Dee Howell of Smithfield.

Donations to the campaign will continue to be received until noon Friday, Dec. 23.
The final amount raised will be reported in the Christmas Day edition of HeraldStandard.com.
