Samuel Oktela
Mr. Samuel Oktela, 61 of 151 River Street, Adah passed away at 7:26 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Oktela was born in Palmer, Pa. on November 19, 1950, the son of the late Louis and Grace (Wetzel) Oktela.
He graduated from German Township High School with the Class of 1968.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Oktela worked as a coal miner for US Steel and Consol Energy Corp. He was the past president of UMWA Local 6321, a member of the Fairbanks Fish and Game Club, the Masontown Fish and Game Club and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, St. Mary’s in Leckrone , Pa.
Mr. Oktela is survived by his wife of 41 years Gloria (Liptock) Oktela; son Brandon Oktela of Canonsburg, Pa.; sister Jeanna Dumuth of Melbourne, Fla.; brother Richard Oktela of Melbourne, Fla., and sister-in-law Mary Louise and Charles Yackmack of Adah, Pa.
Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday until the Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Leckrone with Fr. John M. Butler as celebrant. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.
