Blanche Anne (Wozniak) Ferek, R.N., 89, Carmichaels, Pa., died on F r i d a y, December 16, 2011 a t Beechwood C o u r t Assisted L i v i n g i n Uniontown.
S h e w a s b o r n o n February 6, 1922 in Michigan daughter of Frank and Hedwig Wozniak.
On October 12, 1946, she married Stanley W. Ferek Jr. Mr. Ferek died December 30, 1977.
Blanche graduated from the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing in 1941.
She served her country during World War II as a U.S. Navy Nurse taking care of critically injured sailors and marines at Bethesda Maryland and Sampson Naval Hospital in Albany, New York.
After the war, she worked as an ER Nurse at Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, and retired from the Carmichaels Clinic.
Mrs. Ferek also helped her husband as a bookkeeper for the family business, Ferek’s Atlantic Service Station in Carmichaels.
She was a member of Saint Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels and a member and past President of the Altar Rosary Society.
Blanche was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her four children: Stanley W. ‘Stush’ Ferek III (deceased); Ronald T. Ferek and his wife Brenda, Carmichaels; Terry M. Ferek, Carmichaels; Linda F. Tasser and husband Donald P., Belle Vernon; twelve grandchildren: Brian, Damian, Sami Jo, Jessica Lynn, Alex, Georgi, Aubree, and Stushu Ferek, Krysta Murray, Donnie, P.J., and Niko Tasser; two great grandchildren: Shawn Murray and Lucas Murray. She is also survived by two special grand nieces: Cassidy Podlogar and Allison Podlogar.
In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers: Alex, Stanley, Walter Frank and Elmer Wozniak.
Friends and Family will be received in the L E S A K O FUNERAL HOME INC., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320 (724-966-5100), Paul M. Lesako, Funeral Director/Supervisor, today and Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, December 20, from Noon until 1 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. in Saint Hugh Church, 408 Route 88 Road, Carmichaels, with Monsignor William Charnoki as Celebrant
Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, where Full Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491, Carmichaels.
