Greensboro gets launch grant

By The Heraldstandard.Com 2 min read

Greensboro received a $44,200 state grant to build a public canoe and kayak launch at the end of Stone Street.

The borough used local funds to match the grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

“This launch is a beginning in developing the river in Greensboro as a recreational water trail resource. It will draw canoes and kayakers into town to support local businesses and encourage vital environmental consciousness about the Monongahela River. The launch will provide another river recreational venue for families throughout our area,” said Greensboro Elm Street manager Darlene Urban Garrett.

DCNR is the primary source of state support for Pennsylvania recreation, parks, and conservation initiatives. Grant funding from DCNR assists hundred of communities and organizations across Pennsylvania to plan, acquire, and develop recreation and park facilities, create trails, and conserve open space.

“Our grant investments work to bolster our vision for the health of families, the vibrancy of our communities, the strength of our economy, and our quality of life in Pennsylvania,” DCNR Deputy Secretary Cindy Dunn said. “These grants allow us to partner with communities so that they can expand and improve the wonderful assets that make the places we call home vibrant and attractive.”

Funding for grants comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, and the Environmental Steward Fund (Growing Greener 1), and federal funding sources.
