Brownsville directors accept three resignations
BROWNSVILLE — Directors of the Brownsville Area School Board accepted the resignation of three district employees on Tuesday.
Effective Dec. 30, Linda Marcolini, assistant superintendent, will leave her position in the district.
“She worked tirelessly in this district and we will lose a very hard worker,” said R.W. “Rocky” Brashear, president of the school board. “Wherever her endeavors take her, they will be lucky to have her.”
Marcolini, who has been with the Brownsville district since July 2010, has accepted a position as superintendent in the Monessen School District. She will officially begin her new position Jan. 1.
On Tuesday, directors also accepted the resignation due to retirement of long-time district employee Connie Horka, currently serving as principal at Cox-Donahey Elementary School, effective June 30.
Director Stella Broadwater said Horka will be missed in the district.
“As a teacher, she did an excellent job for this district for years,” Broadwater said. “As a principal, she contributed so much to the Brownsville area. She excelled in everything she did, and I wish her a happy retirement.”
The board also accepted the resignation of security guard Chery Furlong effective Oct. 7.
In other business, the board approved the implementation of the Elementary Student Assistance Program (ESAP).
According to Dr. Phil Savini, district superintendent, the program seeks to provide assistance to elementary school students who may have social problems and possibly drug and alcohol issues. Savini said students are recommended to the ESAP team and are evaluated to see if further assistance is needed.
Savini said training for the state program, which is already implemented in the middle and high school in Brownsville, was funded through a grant and teachers have been working on the action plan for about a year.
