Charges dismissed in sword attack

By Josh Krysak heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

All charges were dismissed Tuesday morning against a Uniontown man accused of using a sword to assault another man during a domestic dispute in August after the alleged victim testified that injuries he received during an altercation occurred when he fell on a broken chair.

Uniontown police Officer Michael Bittner said that following the police’s investigation into the dispute on Aug. 28 at 15 Cleveland Ave., he filed charges against Alan Wayne Scritchfield, 30, of Uniontown for two counts of aggravated assault and single counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and a weapons charge.

After the initial investigation, Bittner said he also charged Wayne Edward Bailey, 37, of Uniontown and Steven Michael Lawwill, 32, of Connellsville for simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct for their alleged roles in the altercation.

However those charges were dismissed earlier this year after Scrtichfield, who was the alleged victim in those cases, failed to appear in court.

During a preliminary hearing today before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros, Bailey testified that Scritchfield did not attack him with a sword and that he was drunk during the incident.
