Man headed to court for making prank calls to 911
A Uniontown man who made a series of prank calls to Fayette County’s 911 center – reporting bogus shootings and hostage situations – waived the charges against him to court. Richard Crossland, 49, of 335 Evans St., waived a total of four counts each of false alarm and false reports, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of criminal mischief on Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
The charges related to bogus calls he made to 911 on Nov. 4 and 18, and Jan. 1 and 5.
In the calls, Uniontown police Capt. David J. Rutter alleged Crossland gave fake names and reported everything from a shooting to a hostage situation. Police allege he made the calls using one cell phone with service based in Ohio, and another he bought at a South Union Township store.
