Steelers DE Eason big on Uniontown charity work
FORT WORTH – Steelers defensive end Nick Eason gave a shout out to Uniontown as he prepared for Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Eason has visited Uniontown several times, mostly through his charity work with the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He explained that the MS Society is near and dear to his heart because his mother, Betty Holland, suffers from the disease.
“I’ll be down there in March for MS, too,” Eason said. “I do a lot for MS and I went down to Uniontown to help the Darbys, who have a restaurant in town there. My Mom has MS so I do a lot of things with the MS Society. That’s how I got hooked up down there in Uniontown. Barb Darby, who has the restaurant, is very involved with MS.”
Eason also has made guest appearances at other events, like boxing shows, in the Uniontown area.
“Most of what I do in Uniontown is in the off-season, two or three times a year, but we’re happy to do it,” Eason said. “Not too many Pittsburgh Steelers get down to Uniontown, so the people there are really receptive when we do come down that way.”
“The last time I was down there was on our bye week,” Eason said. “We did a thing for Souper Bowl and we raised about $15,000 so it was good and for a good cause.”
