Madeline Whetzel Lyons
Madeline Whetzel Lyons, 93, wife/mother/homemaker, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 30, 2010. Mrs. Lyons was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania in 1917, the daughter of Louis and Trissa Whetzel.
After she graduated from Brownsville High School, she worked as a Cosmetologist until she married Eldred Mincer Lyons in 1940.
Mrs. Lyons resided with her husband and their two daughters in Uniontown, Pennsylvania until their move to the Ohio/West Virginia area in 1956.
While living in Uniontown, she became a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 263 and recently celebrated fifty years of membership.
When Mr. Lyons retired from his position of Business Manager for Ohio County Schools in Wheeling, West Virginia, they enjoyed several years of retirement in Florida.
They moved in 1998 to the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years; her parents; and her two brothers, Robert Whetzel and Raymond Whetzel both of Brownsville, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by two daughters: Christine Lyons White of Wintergreen, Virginia and Linda Lyons Williams of Bloomington, Illinois; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA 15401.
Family will receive Friends in the Funeral Home today (Sunday, January 2, 2011) from 7 until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 10 until 11 a.m. followed by Services celebrating Madeline’s life at 11 a.m. with Dr. John K. Sharp officiating.
Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pennsylvania.
