Man killed in Greene County accident

By Herald Standard Staff 1 min read

A Waynesburg man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Route 88 in Greene County Sunday evening. State police in Waynesburg said Mark E. Policz, 49, was thrown from the Jeep Grand Cherokee in which he was riding around 8:25 p.m. The accident occurred in Jefferson Township.

Police did not say who was driving the vehicle, but said two others in it – Cody L. Black, 28, and Caire A. Pena, 41, both of Waynesburg – also suffered injuries.

Black and Pena were both flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. An update on their conditions was not immediately available.

Authorities said that the driver of the Jeep lost control of the vehicle in a curve on the road, lost control and hit an embankment. That caused the vehicle to roll over, and Policz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Jeep, police said.

Rices Landing Volunteer Fire and EMS Department assisted authorities at the scene.
