Fire at National Envelope put out quickly
Emergency personnel from six fire departments responded to a fire during business hours Tuesday at a Fayette County envelope manufacturing facility.
The fire began around 1 p.m. in a bailer near the loading docks at National Envelope Corp. in Upper Tyrone Township, according to Everson Fire Department Chief Chuck Leighty.
“It was almost out when we got here. We put the fire out and then there was a lot of smoke in the building,” Leighty said.
Leighty said the fire appeared to be small and contained to the bailer, which compacts excess paper as a result of production. He said once the fire was out, fire personnel used fans to air out the area where smoke was present until a vent truck arrived on scene.
There were no injuries reported, according to Leighty. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Jerry Fiano, operations manager of the facility, declined to comment on the fire or any damage estimates that may have resulted.
Employees of the facility were not evacuated during the fire.
Formerly Williamhouse Corp. the national company, which employs hundreds at the Fayette County site along Route 119, produces envelopes, invitations and other paper products.
Fire companies from Mt. Pleasant, Connellsville Township, Bullskin Township, East Huntingdon Township and Scottdale assisted Everson. Mutual Aid Ambulance was also on scene.
