By The 1 min read

GEORGES TWP. – State police said a routine traffic stop in Georges Township Dec. 27 led to multiple arrests and the discovery of five illegal immigrants. Trooper Wilbur S. Goodwin III said the traffic stop was initiated on Morgantown Road at 2:01 a.m. and the driver of the car, Giovanni Bernal, 24, of Winston-Salem, N.C., was charged with drunken driving.

Goodwin said that a passenger in the car, Julio Lucas Salinas, 33, also of Winston-Salem, was charged with drug possession.

As police continued to investigate the occupants of the car, Goodwin said police learned that Bernal, Salinas and three other people in the vehicle were all illegal immigrants.

Goodwin said U.S. Immigration officials were notified of the incident and noted that the five suspects face deportation proceedings as a result.
