Michael J. Golden, Jr., age 69, of Smock, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born July 10, 1941, in Keisterville, son of the late Michael Golden and Susan Taskes Golden.

Michael was a member of St. Hedwig R.C. Church in Smock. He was a retired employee at U.S. Steel Corporation Clairton Works and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Keisterville Sportsman Club and was a former ball player for the Fayette County Traveling Softball League and Uniontown Red Raiders Basketball Team.

He was supported by his faith, family and friends who were his constant and ever present companions. They made his days more comfortable as he fought the challenges of his thirteen year battle with cancer while he remained selfless to the end. Mike touched many lives through his passion for wood crafts.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Doby Golden; his children: Tricia Rolsma of Waltersburg and Julie Myers and husband, Douglas of Smock; his two grand-daughters: Madelyn and Emily; his two sisters: Connie Collins and husband, Don of Toledo, Ohio and Gloria Ryland of Uniontown and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem, today, January 12, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, January 13, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, January 14, 2011 until 9:30 a.m., when a Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home. A Con-Celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. in St. Hedwig R.C. Church, Smock, with Rev. Father James F. Petrovsky and Rev. Father Robert Lubic as Co-Celebrants.

Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Smock. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by Amvets Gen. George C. Marshall Post 103 Hopwood.

Parish Wake Service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with Parish Rosary immediately following.
