Courson Humane Society closed
Failed to comply with state laws
The Steve Courson Humane Society in North Union Township was closed early this month after failing to comply with state dog laws in recent inspections.
According to the state Department of Agriculture, the shelter, listed as the Humane Society of Fayette County, failed inspections conducted in November and December, resulting in the shuttering.
The shelter, located at 477 N. Gallatin Ave., was officially closed New Year’s Day.
According to state records, the shelter has battled compliance issues for several years but had always been able to bring the facility up to code prior to the inspections in November and December.
The specific reasons for the failed inspections were not revealed.
