Michael John Lucas
0006012527-01-1.jpg Michael John Lucas, 71, of Charleston, SC and formerly of Carmichaels, Farrell, Millersburg and Lewisburg, Pa., died at 3:59 A.M. on Saturday, January 15, 2011, in the Hospice Center of the Hospice of Charleston, Charleston, SC. He was born October 11, 1939 in Franklin Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Anne H. (Voivoda) Lucas.
Mr. Lucas earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Cumberland Township High in Carmichaels in 1957. He received his bachelors degree from Washington and Jefferson College, where he was a member of the Lambda Ki Alpha fraternity. He served with the U. S. Army in the Korean Conflict and attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
Upon receiving his Funeral Directors license, Mr. Lucas worked with his father at the former Lucas Funeral Home in Carmichaels and Mount Morris, Pa. While residing in Greene County, he was a member and past president of the Carmichaels Area Lions Club, a member of the Greene County Planning Commission, the Carmichaels Library Board, the Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greene County Historical Society and the Pennsylvania Funeral Director’s Association. He was a Past Master of Valley Lodge No. 459, F. and A. M., Masontown, Pa., a member of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Lucas owned and operated the Harry C. Tennant Funeral Home in Farrell, Pa. from 1988 until 1998 and was a member of Kedron Lodge No. 389, F. and A. M. and the Farrell Chapter No. 156 O. E. S., both of West Middlesex, Pa.
In 1998 Mr. Lucas moved to Millersburg, Pa. to purchase the Reinhard Funeral Home, which he operated until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Millersburg Historical Society, the Rotary clubs in Millersburg and Lewisburg, Pa. and was a recipient of Rotary’s Paul Harris Award. Mr. Lucas was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg and the Lewisburg Historic Architectural Review Board.
Surviving are his wife, Amy J. (Jacobs) Lucas; two sons, Grant M. Lucas and his wife, Eileen of Austria and Bran-don N. Beatty of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Kelly Cheek and her husband, Tim of Charlotte, NC and Sara A. Lucas of Exton, PA; three grandchildren, Emma Lucas, Jacob Cheek and Aubrey Cheek; a sister, Georgianna M. Weisner and her husband, Frederick of Monroeville, Pa. and one niece and one nephew.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa., where the funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 22, 2011. The Rev. Donald P. Wilson will officiate.
Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. Valley Lodge No. 459, F. and A. M. will conduct Masonic Services at 7:30 P.M. on Friday in the funeral home.
