Anthony R. Krizner, DDS
Dr. Anthony Robert Krizner, 84, died at home in Uniontown, Thursday, January 20, 2011.
He was the husband of his devoted wife, Elizabeth Ann Hribar Krizner for 56 years.
He was born July 29, 1926, in Uniontown, the last of 12 children of the late John M. and Mary Jacobchuk Krizner.
Tony was a proud graduate of the class of 1944 South Union High School and served as class president. He was a gifted athlete and was a member of the championship basketball and baseball teams and was recruited by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was drafted into the US Navy and was stationed at Lake Arrowhead, CA during WWII. Tony was awarded a basketball scholarship to Findley College, upon his discharge from the Navy and graduated from the University of Detroit, attending on a baseball scholarship. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dentistry in 1955 and began his dental practice in the Fayette National Bank Building. Tony acquired the practice of the late Dr. Ernest P. DeHaas and practiced dentistry in the New Salem Bank Building for 36 years, retiring in 1994.
Dr. Krizner was a lifelong member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church; served on the parish council; was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers; was a charter member of St. Mary Activity Association; a member of the National Slovak Society; and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union. He was a member and past president of the Fayette County Dental Society; the Odontological Society of Western PA; the Psi Omega National Dental Society, where he served as an officer; and was a graduate of the Pankey Dental Institute. He loved working with wood and built a concert harp for his daughter and a guitar for his son.
Prayerfully, each day, with the help of God, he hung the sun high in the sky to shine brightly over the lives of his beloved children: Dr. Jonathan (Julie) Krizner and Dr. Hillary Peck (Dr. Kevin Peck). He was affectionately called “Grandy” by: Hadley, Maren, Isaiah, Eliana, and Blaise Krizner, Meryl and Elizabeth Peck, the grandchildren that were his pride and joy and left to cherish his memory. He delighted in their being. Also surviving, numerous nieces and nephews from the Marcinko, Miller, Hovanec, Smorada, Krizner, Holly, Reilly, and Hribar families. His devoted sister-in-law and dental assistant of 25 years, Kay Hribar; his sister-in-law, Mildred Barish Krizner and his devoted friend and business associate, Rodney Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Andrew (Mary Marva), Stephen (Virginia Regets), John (Lena Regets), Frank (Kathryn Kieffer), Joseph, William (Jennie Piccolomini), and S. Sgt. Albert Patrick Krizner, who died in 1944 when his plane was shot down over Schweinfort, Germany. Four sisters, Anna (Joseph Marcinko), Elizabeth (Edward Miller), Joanne (Stephen Hovanec), and Frances (George Smorada).
The family wishes to thank the Albert Gallatin Home Health Care Hospice nurses and aides for their support and dedicated care and also beloved friends and neighbors who assisted with his care.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at ST. MARY (NATIVITY) ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, PA 15401 on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 12:00 noon with Father William Krizner, nephew and godson of Dr. Krizner, who is pastor of St. Collette Church in W. Brunswick, Ohio, his pastor, Father Stephen Bugay and Father William Lechnar, family friend and pastor of St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana, as concelebrants.
Friends will be received at the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 S. Pennsylvania Ave, Uniontown, from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. Thursday and Friday and also on Saturday until 11:15 A.M., when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
The Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday at 3 P.M. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery with Military Honors being accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: St. Mary (Nativity) Church, Building Maintenance Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of his niece and nephew Dolores Holly Workman and Gregory J. Workman, Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., in Mountville and Columbia, PA.
