Local Congressmen react to State of the Union address
Members of the southwestern Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation reacted to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address mostly among party lines, but each mentioned the importance of reaching across the aisle to work toward America’s future. U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., said Obama’s speech offered a roadmap to promote American prosperity and security.
“Domestically, the country faces many challenges to put people back to work, invest in our workers and foster long-term economic prosperity. We face continued foreign and domestic threats and our fighting men and women are still serving in harm’s way,” Casey said.
The importance of providing every child with an education, cutting spending and developing clean energy were among the highlights of the president’s annual speech, which lasted one hour and one minute Tuesday evening.
Obama urged members of Congress, who uncharacteristically altered their seating arrangements with some sitting beside members of different political parties, to work together to make American’s future brighter.
