Ruth Guesman Atalski
0006017439-01-1.jpg Ruth Guesman Atalski, 85, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at her home. She was born January 11, 1926 in Rices Landing, Pa., a daughter of the late J. Howard and Grace L. (Bayard) Guesman.
Mrs. Atalski was a graduate of Jefferson High School and earned her bachelors degree in English from Waynesburg College in 1948. She was a longtime member and elder of the Hewitt Presbyterian Church of Rices Landing, where she was a member of the Agape 7 Circle. Mrs. Atalski was a substitute teacher at the Southeastern Greene and Carmichaels Area School Districts. She served as a director for the Greene Academy of Art and was a member of the Greene Academy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition, she was a member of the Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club, which honored her in 1979 as the Woman of the Year. Other memberships included: the Southwestern Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Committee, the American Association of University Women, the Greene County Community Concert Association and a former membership with Ideal Chapter No. 213, O. E. S. Mrs. Atalski was active in the early development of hospice in Greene County.
On July 25, 1947, she married Walter P. Atalski, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Walter P. Atalski, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Fort Mill, SC; a daughter, Laurie C. Crossland and her husband, Richard of Claysville, Pa.; four grandchildren: Heather Atalski Miller and her husband, Bob, Brandy Atalski Stiltner and her husband, Randy, Rachael Crossland and Matthew Crossland; two great- grandchildren: Isaiah Taylor Stiltner and Hope Victoria Stiltner and several nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no public viewing and she will be cremated.
Family and friends will be received at a memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the HEWITT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, Rices Landing, Pa. with the Rev. Donald P. Wilson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either the Hewitt Presbyterian Church, 1206 Crucible Road, Rices Landing, PA 15357 or to the American Heart Association.
