Faithfulness issues

By Herald Standard Staff 4 min read

Hey, Coach! I am 19 years old and haven’t really dated that much, so I could be wrong, but I think my boyfriend is losing interest in me. I feel that because I think there is a chance he is cheating on me. He is acting much differently than he did when we first started to hang out. We have been together for about two months, and we used to spend most of the weekend together, but now he says he wants to spend more time with the guys. Maybe that’s his way of saying that he doesn’t want to be with me any more. I would be OK with that if he doesn’t think I am right for him. If he wants to be with someone else, I would want him to do that if that makes him happy. So, how do I find out whether or not he is cheating on me or if he is actually spending more time with his male friends? Signed+Left Wondering

Dear Left Wondering: Your boyfriend may or may not be cheating on you. If he is not, then something is still awry, and you are encouraged to sit down with him and ask the “tough” questions in a very calm and rational manner. Certainly, you would not be out of bounds to bring up that you two used to spend a lot of time together on weekends, and now it appears that he would rather be with the guys than with you. You should feel comfortable saying that you miss spending time with him and you want more from your relationship, and then ask him how he feels about that. You should also feel free to ask him if he has interest in someone else and is he being faithful. Perhaps he has an understanding that he is not in a committed relationship. It appears that you have recognized that your relationship is in neutral at best, so the suggestion here is to talk about where things stand and where your relationship is headed. If things are going to go forward, perhaps your dating world just needs a little spark, so feel free to take the lead and plan a special date that puts you both in a position to have some fun.

Hopefully things will work out. Best wishes for success.

Energy drinks

We had a piece in this column about a month ago with regards to energy drinks that contain alcohol. About two weeks ago, the Coach saw an article that stated that these drinks are being recycled into ethanol and other products after federal authorities told manufacturers that the beverages were dangerous and caused users to become wide-awake drunk. Wholesalers from East Coast states started sending their high-alcohol, caffeinated malt beverages to an appropriate place after the FDA announced a crackdown on such beverages. The FDA issued warning letters labeling these drinks as unsafe because of the number of incidents involving alcohol poisoning, car accidents and assaults. Two comments: Why did it take them so long, and why are unsafe/untested products able to get on the market without the appropriate approval? As Don King would say, “Only in America.”

Steel Curtain

The defense has been superb, at times, and, hopefully, it will be just that next Sunday. For those headed to Dallas, have a great time and bring home Super Bowl No. 7. Most importantly, have a safe trip.
