Free tax help available through the FCCAA

The Fayette County Community Action Agency Inc. will be assisting local residents with their income-tax returns this tax season.

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offer free tax help to people who cannot afford professional assistance.

Volunteers will be available to help prepare basic tax returns for taxpayers with special needs, including people with disabilities, low to moderate income and elderly taxpayers.

The following information is required in order for a return to be completed: Social Security cards; birth dates for taxpayer, spouse and dependents; wage and earnings statements (W-2, W-2G, 1009R); interest and dividend statements; copy of last year’s return, bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit; total paid for daycare provider; and the provider’s tax ID number. Both spouses must be present to sign if a joint return is being filed.

The VITA-TCE tax season begins Monday and continues through April 15.

The VITA-TCE sites and hours of operation are as follows:

n Connellsville Senior Center, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 2 through April 13.

n Masontown Senior Center. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 8 through 12, by appointment only. Call 724-583-7822.

n Uniontown Mall, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, through April 15, walk-in.

The VITA-TCE program is funded by the U.S. Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service.
