GREENSBURG, PA.
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) – The trial of a western Pennsylvania man accused of killing his wife’s former lover last summer is scheduled to begin next month.
Fifty-five-year-old Richard McAnulty, of Center Township, Indiana County, is charged with homicide, burglary and firearms crimes. The Indiana Gazette says prosecutors and defense attorneys said last week they were ready for proceedings to begin Feb. 7.
Westmoreland County detectives allege that he argued with his wife in July and then drove to the Southwest Greensburg home of 39-year-old Harry Mears III, kicked in the door and shot Mears three times. The victim jumped from a second-floor window but later died at a hospital.
Prosecutors decided not to seek the death penalty, so McAnulty could face life in prison without parole if convicted. Defense attorney Timothy Andrews has said his client’s state of mind will be an issue at trial.
