H.I.T.S.
With the upcoming February release of the Verizon iPhone 4, Verizon has an online offer for anyone who’s recently purchased a new phone from the company during the time period from Nov. 26 to Jan. 10.
If you want to switch to an iPhone, Verizon will generously give you a $200 Visa gift card.
On the surface, I thought this looked really good, at first. However, digging a little deeper revealed that if you accept the offer, you pay the full price for the iPhone, which is either $650 or $750 without the subsidy, depending also on whether it’s an 8-gig capacity or 16-gig model.
Obviously, I don’t think that people will be lined up waiting for that one, as the price is a bit steep, to say the least. If you’re interested in the regular deal, however, you can read more online at http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/iphone.jsp
. I think you can reserve an iPhone there, as well.
I wondered aloud to Mrs. Schulze as to whether Apple and Verizon will advertise the phone on any of the Super Bowl commercials this year. These ads seem to have a form of cult following online at sites like http://superbowlads.fanhouse.com/
. That site has the 2010 commercials, but you can see all the old ones at http://www.devlib.org/reviews/superbowl-commercials
.
Speaking of football, were you at the Steelers’ game last Sunday? If so (and you didn’t freeze to death), you can locate yourself on the huge panoramic pic- that they took in the stadium at http://www.steelers.com/gigapixelfancam/230111/
.
You can tag yourself on the picture and order a print. It’s called the McDonalds FanCam, but be aware the picture is so big that it takes a while to load, even with a high-speed connection.
The previously mentioned photo is 5 billion megapixels and there is no truth to the rumor that Doren and I have ordered cameras like that. All kidding aside, it’s a pretty amazing picture.
My lowly 14-megapixel Olympus has a panorama setting on it, but it’s nothing like the Steeler picture
I wonder how many new big screen TVs will be sold before the Super Bowl this year?
After some research online, it became obvious that there exists some urban myths about TVs costing more before the Super Bowl than afterward.
According to many websites, people will buy a big-screen TV from a store just for the game and then return it the week after.
I do remember that our local Sears used to have a small section in electronics where you could buy things like camcorders and various electronic gizmos that had been returned, but had no defects, at big discounts.
By the way, if you really love football, you can play the Madden NFL games on an iPod Touch or an iPhone.

if you’re a gaming fan and love football. I myself must confess that, despite Mrs. Schulze’s various coaching attempts at teaching me the rules, I’d just rather watch it without knowing. The finer points don’t really interest me, despite the fact that I’ve watched the Super Bowl games that the Steelers have been in since the late 1970s.
I’ve also been showing students how to play the Steeler fight song on guitar and bass this week.
It seems like just about every young student I teach now has an iPod Touch with the new video camera function.

I wonder how many people who attend the Super Bowl this year will be recording the event via these little devices?
Happy surfing.
