Toddler found wandering alone, mother charged

1 min read

A 25-year-old Fayette County woman faces charges after she allegedly failed to notice when her child wandered from their home two times today.

Trooper Craig Yauch said Alicia R. Wilczynski of 84 Park Ave., Republic, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child for allowing her 2-year-old daughter to escape the home and wander the streets alone.

Yauch said the toddler exited the house without Wilczynski noticing two times, noting that the front door of the house is broken.

The first time the toddler left the house, she was almost hit by someone driving down the road, Yauch said.

The toddler again exited the house around 2:30 p.m. and was found in a neighboring yard by a pizza delivery driver, who took the child to a nearby home and called police.

According to Yauch, Wilczynski did not notice the child was missing the second time and begin looking for her for at least 10 to 12 minutes.
