Harold “Pooch” Hartman

Harold “Pooch” Hartman, 80, of Brownfield Hollow, Smithfield, Pa. died peacefully at home July 11, 2011.

He was born on September 22, 1930 in Glendale, Georges Township, Pa., the son of the late Jake G. Hartman and Ethel M. Rankin Hartman.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford Hartman and Jesse Hartman of Smithfield, Pa. and sister, Edna Guthrie of White House, Pa.

Harold was a heavy equipment operator in surface coal mining for most of his life. He served in the US Army Air Corps. as an engineer for two years during the Korean War, most of that time was spent in Aleutian Islands, Alaska.

He enjoyed hunting, snow mobile riding, horseback riding and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

“Pooch” is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Guthrie Hartman of Smithfield, Pa.; sister, Elizabeth Kauffman and husband, Marlin of Lancaster, Pa.; two sister-in-laws, Betty Hartman and Donna Jean Hartman of Smithfield, Pa.; foster brother, William Joseph Hartman of Masontown, Pa. and foster sister, Jane Moser of McClellandtown, Pa.; many nieces and nephews and his faithful friend, Tenie.

The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. on Wednesday 7 – 9 p.m., Thursday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9, and on Friday, July 15, 2011 until 11:00 a.m., the hour of service with Pastor Paul Lesher officiating.

Interment will follow in the Miller-Sisler Cemetery, Georges Township.
