State police uncover cache of drugs following traffic stop in Uniontown

By Josh Krysak heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A routine traffic stop in Uniontown Monday led police to uncover a large cache of heroin.

State police Trooper Christopher Cole said the drugs were found after he initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Morgantown Street in Uniontown around 10:30 p.m.

Cole said that when he stopped the car, a passenger that he had recently arrested on drug-related charges, provided him with a false name.

“I guess she didn’t recognize me,” Cole said. “I knew who she was. I arrested her less than six months ago.”

Cole said that the Uniontown woman, whose identity is being withheld pending the formalization of charges, was also found to be a wanted person for a theft charge.

At that point, Cole said he took her into custody without incident.

While taking the woman into custody, Cole said he spotted drug paraphernalia on the floorboard of the car and then discovered a needle and several loose stamp bags of heroin in her purse.
